AKIKO JUNI
visual artist
I create mixed media paintings, drawings and prints in Ishikawa, Japan.
At the heart of my practice is the simple act of making marks: the scratch of graphite, pigment seeping into paper, the textures that emerge through the contact between hand, tool and surface.
I collect shapes and colours from my surroundings, letting them find their way into my work. Whether working with fruits, vessels or plants, I am drawn to how forms relate to one another, the spaces between them, and the quiet balance they create.

Akiko Juni received her BFA in Graphic Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. She worked as a graphic designer and illustrator for over a decade before gradually developing her own art practice.
Having lived in the US and the UK and travelled extensively, she is now based in Ishikawa, Japan, where her practice has become increasingly rooted in the places and everyday life closest to her.
石川県を拠点に、絵や版画を制作しています。
制作の中心にあるのは、「描くこと」そのものです。鉛筆が紙を走る感触や、絵の具が染み込んでいく気配。手と画材と紙が触れ合うことで生まれる、質感や跡。
日々の暮らしの中で目に留まる形や色を拾い集め、作品に取り入れています。器や果物、草花など、身近なものを起点に、形と形の関係や、その間に生まれる余白、静かなバランスを探っています。

東京外国語大学入学後に渡米し、Fashion Institute of Technology, New York グラフィックデザイン科を卒業。デザイナー／イラストレーターとして活動した後、現在の制作活動へ。
米国、英国での生活やさまざまな土地を訪れた経験を経て、現在は石川県を拠点に、身近な場所や日々の暮らしに目を向けながら制作しています。
